A Wander Around Knypersley

A wildlife photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

This morning I was heading off to Knypersley Reservoir.

I’d been scrolling through social media groups as you do, and had noted that there was a reasonably active Kingfisher around the bridge at Knypersley Reservoir. Buoyed by my recent Kingfisher images from Whitfield Valley nature reserve, and wanting to do better I thought I’d give it a go. As a plan B I packed some bird food just in case, and if worst came to the worst I’d try and get some portrait images of the various birds, or grey squirrels.

I wandered around to the bridge and checked out the pools but after a while, and with no Kingfisher sightings to be had plan B came into effect.

I took a few images as the birds came to feed on the bridge, but then decided to head back towards where I’d parked the car with a view to getting some images of the birds on the moss covered walls, which I thought made for a more pleasing composition.

I always enjoy a wander around Knypersley. As well as a nice variety of birds there are a few spots for landscape photography, with the highlight for me being what I think is a very pleasing waterfall tucked away in the wood.
